About
I love things that are weathered, worn, textured, old. I’m partial to symmetry, squares and cutting things into pieces. I have a soft spot for items created by hand. My background and the
competing halves of my brain are a mix of the creative and analytical.
That’s me. That’s my art.
My subject matter doesn’t talk back. It doesn’t look perfect. But it definitely has a story to tell, whether it’s a worn flower or a #12 pool ball. My artistic mission is to push my images to be more textural and to use my hands ( yes, even in this digital age ). That’s why I choose the unpredictability and hands-on nature of transfers.
To emphasize whatever is most unique about my subjects, I shoot them against plain backgrounds. I add textures, scratches and carefully chosen imperfections later, in part with digital layering techniques. Then I add more textures on top with varnish, gels, oils, beeswax, or whatever best accentuates the personality of my subjects. I mount final images onto metal or transfer them into wood using various techniques. The metal pieces have sanded, paint-rubbed edges and are finished with varnish or gel. The wood transfers are finished with a protective sealer.I do everything myself - photographing, imaging, printing, transferring, mounting, painting, dying boxes and framing.
That’s me. That’s my art. Enjoy!
